George A. Rauscher started writing code at fourteen, not as a hobby and not as a school project, but because something in his head demanded it before he had a name for what it was. By sixteen he had built his own operating system on a Commodore 64, which in 1985 was not something you learned from a book because nobody had written those books yet. You worked it out directly from the machine, from the resistance it offered and the logic it eventually gave up, or you walked away without it. He never walked away from anything.

At twenty, he found his way into the telecommunications satellite of Deutsche Telekom. Not to cause damage, not for recognition, but because he genuinely needed to know whether the walls everyone accepted as unbreakable actually were. They were not, and that realization worked its way into everything he has done since, because once you have stood on the other side of a wall that everyone else is still treating as permanent, you stop taking the presented surface of things at face value. It stops being a skill you apply and becomes a way of seeing that you cannot switch off.

What followed was a life that resisted every attempt to put a single label on it.

The German justice system found him the way systems always find the people they need, and for years he worked on cases involving crimes against children. That kind of work changes you permanently if you approach it with any real honesty, because you are never dealing with abstractions or theoretical scenarios or case numbers on a file. You are dealing with evidence that carries genuine weight, decisions that have genuine consequences, and real human beings on both ends of everything you do. The work required a precision that recognized no lower limit and accepted no substitute, and it received exactly that standard every single time.

From there the disciplines spread outward rather than shifting. He moved through forensic anthropology, digital forensics, audio analysis, and video forensics, building expertise that crossed every boundary between those fields and refused to stay inside the tidy categories that universities prefer to maintain. For twenty-five years he worked cases for prosecutors, for intelligence services, and for investigative agencies across four continents, on matters that were frequently high-profile, often classified, and always the kind where a single disputed recording, a single questioned image, or one unresolved question about authenticity could determine an outcome that nobody got to revisit once the verdict was handed down. In that environment, close enough was simply a longer way of arriving at wrong, and everyone in the room understood that without being told.

He wrote code through all of it. He played guitar and piano. He built systems, took them apart, and built them back together in better shape than before. He produced music. He studied every single day, not because anyone required it of him but because that is the only way his mind knows how to operate. The forensic work sharpened his ear. The ear fed back into the music. The code held everything else together quietly in the background, the way a good foundation is supposed to work without anyone noticing it is there.

But underneath all of that is something that no resume captures and no professional biography quite manages to convey, and it is probably the most essential thing about the way he actually thinks and works.

He has never experienced zeros and ones as abstract notation. To him, code is a living system with the same fundamental architecture as a biological organism, with the same feedback loops, the same failure patterns, the same elegant redundancies built in for resilience, and the same catastrophic unraveling when something at the structural core goes wrong. Reading code, for him, is reading anatomy. Diagnosing a system is conducting a clinical examination, moving through the structure the same way a physician moves through a body, noting what is present, what is missing, and what has no business being where it is. This works with the same ease and the same fluency in the opposite direction, because when he is standing in front of a biological body, what he perceives is not tissue and structure but a system whose underlying logic reaches him the way source code reaches someone who has spent decades learning to read it. He touches a patient, whether human or animal, and the information arrives before any formal process begins. His wife is a veterinary physician and he has worked alongside her long enough that she stopped being surprised when he identifies what an animal is dealing with before the examination has officially reached a conclusion. He simply knows, the way you know a program is about to fail because the pattern underneath has already told you everything it needs to.

The forensic anthropology work made all of this concrete in ways that are genuinely difficult to describe and considerably harder to dismiss. When he holds a human skull in his hands, he is not running through a checklist or applying a methodology from a textbook. Within seconds he can tell you the approximate age at death, the biological sex, the ethnic background, and the shape of the face that once existed over those bones. He has been reconstructing faces from skeletal remains for fifteen years and has never been wrong in a way that changed or compromised an outcome. The skull communicates with the same directness that a corrupted memory address communicates to a debugger. The information is encoded in the structure itself, and you either carry the language to read it or you spend your career finding ways to work around the fact that you do not.

Human biology and forensic anthropology come naturally to him in ways that consistently catch people off guard, including people who have spent entire careers inside those fields, and the reason turns out to be straightforward once you actually look at it. Every discipline he has ever entered rests on the same underlying logic: systems with inputs and outputs, states and failure conditions, errors that can be recovered from and errors that cannot. The medical and the computational are not different worlds to him. They are the same world described in different notation, and he has been comfortable in both for long enough that moving between them stopped requiring any deliberate effort years ago.

Penetration testing became one of his core specialties for a reason that should be apparent by now. You do not learn to think like an attacker by reading papers about them or attending training sessions where their techniques get walked through in safely sanitized language. You learn it by actually thinking the way they think, by absorbing their tools and their instincts and the specific kind of patience that serious intrusion work requires, by understanding what they are after and where they expect to find it before they ever arrive. That knowledge functions in both directions without exception. It shows you where your vulnerabilities are before someone with worse intentions finds them ahead of you. It shows you how to reconstruct what actually happened after attackers have already been inside and left, which traces they leave behind that most people are not trained to look for, what they accessed, what they took, and what they tried to erase. In a period where artificial intelligence has placed serious offensive capability into the hands of people who previously lacked the technical depth to deploy it effectively, where the barrier to entry for attackers has fallen to a level that would have seemed implausible ten years ago, someone who understood all of this before the tools came along to make it easy has not become less valuable. The opposite is true, and the distance keeps growing.

In autumn 2025 he stepped away from active expert witness work. Not because the work had run its course, but because twenty-five years inside a justice system teaches you its failures just as thoroughly as its strengths, and because there are better ways to use what you have spent a lifetime building than remaining inside a structure whose accumulated problems you have been watching up close for most of your adult life.

There is no phone number listed anywhere on this site, and that is a deliberate decision rather than an oversight. Phone calls, for George Rauscher, are noise in the most literal sense, a channel that never carried much signal for him and one he stopped pretending otherwise about a long time ago. Trying to reach him by phone on a Friday afternoon is about as productive as knocking on the door of a building that was converted into something else entirely while you were still looking up the address. He does keep a mobile phone, but it does not live attached to him the way most people have quietly accepted as the baseline condition of modern life, and it runs a dedicated AI system that manages incoming calls with considerable efficiency. The system intercepts, filters, and routes. Callers who speak a specific word during the greeting get passed through, and even then only if the phone happens to be nearby, which is not guaranteed. This is not rudeness and it is not inaccessibility. It is an honest application of self-knowledge to communication design, which is really just systems optimization applied to daily life. Attention is a finite resource. His time is the one thing he manages more carefully than anything else. An AI handling calls from people trying to sell him things he will never need is simply good engineering.

The clients who work with him are not shopping for a vendor to fulfill a specification. They are looking for someone who has already understood the actual problem before they finish describing the surface version of it, who has accumulated enough experience across enough disciplines to recognize when the straightforward answer is the wrong one, and who brings to everything he touches a standard that was shaped in rooms where approximation simply did not exist as a category anyone was willing to accept.
